The Jardini Arowana, a species of freshwater fish, can live for ten to twenty years in captivity, but in the wild, they can reach up to 50 years depending on the species. They can grow up to two feet in captivity, whereas in their natural habitat, they can grow up to three feet, reaching their maximum growth point in about a year and a half. A high-protein diet is necessary for their growth, with a rate of approximately two inches per month. Raising a Jardini Arowana requires preparation and commitment, as they are a long-term companion that can reach the size of a toddler.
